What you need to know to get the most from car wraps
Your car is more than just a means to get from point A to point B, it’s an expression of who you are: inside and out.
While there are many ways to customize your ride, wrapping your car is becoming an increasingly popular option, thanks to the variety of finishes and surprising affordability.
Here are some of the frequently asked questions that car enthusiasts are asking when it comes to wrapping:
1. What is a wrap?
A wrap is a coloured graphic film that is applied directly to your vehicle by a graphics installer. It’s an easy way to add accents, like stripes, to your vehicle or even change the colour completely.
2. What options are available?
Design options are almost limitless. A great place to start is by trying out the 3M Customizer to virtually wrap a vehicle. There are over 80 different colours of 3M™ Print Wrap Film Series 1080 to choose from, and a variety of texture options including brushed, carbon fibre, matte, satin and gloss.
3. How much does a wrap cost?
While costs range from a few hundred dollars for accents to a few thousand for a full wrap, the final tally depends on your unique needs, including: the size of the vehicle, how much of it is being wrapped, the film you select, the complexity of the processing, cutting and installation.
4. How long does a wrap last?
The expected performance life—that is, the length of time the 3M wrap should look good and stay adhered—is 5 to 7 years (depending on the finish) if properly maintained.

5. Can wraps be installed over paint scratches, dents or rust?
Wrap film is thin and flexible to allow it to conform beautifully to the contours of your vehicle, but that means it also conforms to any imperfections.
Before spending the time and money to wrap a damaged or rusted vehicle, we recommend repairing it.
6. How do I take care of a wrap?
Keeping your wrap clean will help preserve its appearance. You can take the vehicle through a brushless car wash, and within certain guidelines, you can power wash the wrapped vehicle.

7. Will removing the wrap damage the paint?
When used, applied, maintained and removed according to 3M’s instructions and within the product’s 3M Warranty Period, film series 1080 should not damage an OEM paint finish upon removal.
