Science communicator @science.sam will be joining us at the 2019 JUNO Awards this Sunday as we get ready to explore the #scienceofsound. Stay tuned! . Communicante scientifique @science.sam se joindra à nous pour les JUNOS 2019 ce dimanche alors que nous nous préparons à explorer la #scienceduson. Restez à l'écoute! . Posted @withrepost • @science.sam In a loud & busy world, how do we differentiate the sound🎶 from all the noise 📣?? #sponsored . In preparation for our partnership bringing the #ScienceOfSound to the 2019 JUNO Awards 🎉, @3MCanada sent me a generous box of goodies to explore the impacts of sound on our lives! I’m so grateful for these & all the ways they’re innovating to continue to support science communication 🙏🏼❤️. . Noises are vibrations that often travel as an audible 〰️WaVe 〰️ of pressure. We can typically sense a range of noises thanks to hair cells in our inner ears that literally BEND from the sound's pressure, starting a cascade of electrochemical⚡️ messages that transmit information about the sound from our ears👂🏾 to the auditory cortex in our brains 🧠! . But that's just ~sensing~ sound ... in order to *perceive* a sound, it generally has to jump around a few spots in the brain for processing. Our brains are decent at blocking out information that doesn't need to be processed for perception (the humming of your fridge, ✈️ flying overhead...), but sometimes we need a little extra help to keep our attention away from noises that don't matter, or to protect our precious little hair cells from noises at volumes or frequencies that can damage them! . I'll be kicking it with @3MCanada all weekend at the #JUNOs celebrating the science behind Canada's top music, doing demos, and even talking science on the red carpet!! 🤩 I CANNOT wait!! Keep your 👀 here for more! . Til then, let me know what else you love or wanna learn about SOUND! 👇🏼🎉💕
