The video evidence speaks for itself – 3M™ Cubitron™ II Abrasives grind like a legend.
But not only can 3M™ Cubitron™ II Abrasives whittle away a whole engine with expert precision, they also grind faster, cooler and longer than other products, thanks to abrasive ‘muscle,’ that was forged from the fire of 3M science.
Overhaul’n the way that you grind starts with getting down and gritty with abrasives
If you took your everyday abrasive product and looked at it closely, like, under a microscope closely, you’d notice something interesting about the belts, discs, bonded and cut-off wheels that you put through the paces day in and day out.
Up close and personal, their ceramic grains are unevenly sized shards, their points scattered in all directions. When these abrasives are put to work, their cutting tips ‘plow’ through the metal, causing high frictional force, which slows down the cutting and causes heat build-up. As you grind away, the grains break off and wear down, until before you know it, it’s time to replace your grinding wheel again.
Introducing 3M Precision Shaped Grain (PSG) technology
Using microreplication, 3M scientists created consistently sized triangular grains, which were then electrostatically oriented to point in the same direction. These grains formed a united front that maximized the abrasives’ cutting potential, and the resulting technology became known as Precision Shaped Grain (PSG).
Used in all 3M™ Cubitron™ II Abrasive Products, Precision Shaped Grains self-sharpen. As they are used they continuously fracture to form sharp points and edges that slice cleaner and faster, stay cooler, and last longer than other products, meaning you get efficient metal removal, while greatly reducing heat related damage and charring.
In fact, 3M™ Cubitron™ II Abrasive Discs are so efficient, they have been shown to out-cut and out-last many conventional ceramic industrial abrasive discs on the market.
What happens when PSG technology is put to the test in real-life situations?
Many businesses that have been using 3M’s PSG containing abrasive products have reported a tremendous impact to their overall operations. In one example, customers using the 3M™ Cubitron™ II Fibre Disc 982C abrasive products across a variety of applications reported a two-to-three fold improvement in grinding efficiency and product life, with a reduction in operator fatigue and heat generation on the workpiece.
