Your results matter.

Your food testing results impact the safety and well-being of your consumers and overall brand. You need to be confident that your testing method works and has been put to the test.

That’s why I am so proud of the 3M™ Petrifilm™ Lactic Acid Bacteria Count Plate method. It was awarded the AOAC Performance – Tested MethodSM, Certificate #041701 – making it the first commercial food testing method of its kind to receive a validation from a third-party scientific organization.1

What does the third-party validation mean?

A third-party validation is the process where an independent accredited laboratory is requested to test, confirm and certify that a product meets specific requirements for safety, quality, etc.

In their testing, AOAC found that the 3M™ Petrifilm™ Lactic Acid Bacteria Count Plate method demonstrated reliability as an accurate alternative to the reference methods for listing lactic acid bacteria.2

If you can trust your results when assessing specific lactic acid bacteria levels, you can efficiently adjust processing conditions and improve the cleaning and sanitizing procedures. This means:

  • extended shelf life
  • reduced waste
  • reduced recalls
  • improved quality: look, taste, texture, and smell

AOAC Performance – Tested MethodSM, verification covered the following matrices:

cold smoked salmon, cream pastry, creamy salad dressing, deli chicken, deli ham, deli turkey, duck pâté, pickled herring, kimchi, mayonnaise, mustard potato salad, terrine, yogurt, chicken sausage, pepperoni, cottage cheese, ready-to-bake pizza and stainless steel (environmental surface). 3

The ongoing leader in lactic acid testing procedures.

AOAC’s validation is another accolade for what was already a market-leading technology.

When it was introduced to the industry in August 2016, the 3M™ Petrifilm™ Lactic Acid Bacteria Count Plate simplified a long, complicated, and expensive process into a fast, efficient, ready-to-use procedure – without compromising accuracy.

3M™ Petrifilm™ Lactic Acid Bacteria Count Plate is the only product on the market that doesn’t require any additional testing equipment like gas packs, chamber or CO2 incubators. The 3M science behind 3M™ Petrifilm™ Lactic Acid Bacteria Count Plate creates a self-contained anaerobic environment enabled by oxygen-scavenging technology and oxygen-barrier films.

The response from our customers has been overwhelmingly positive. Quality assurance, lab managers and technicians love the simplicity of the 3M™ Petrifilm™ Lactic Acid Bacteria Count Plate.

To now have AOAC recognize it as a best practice for reliable and repeatable results in food manufacturing is a proud accomplishment – particularly because no other commercial food safety method for lactic acid bacteria testing has an AOAC Performance-Tested MethodSM validation.4
