The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (USDA FSIS) has awarded 3M Company Food Safety with a contract for pathogen detection instrument and kits. The contract makes 3M™ Molecular Detection System the primary method to be used by the USDA FSIS for E. coli, salmonella, and listeria testing.
“Protecting food, consumers and businesses with innovative and reliable technologies has been at the core of everything we do, so the USDA FSIS’ selection of 3M as a partner is validation of the science and the spirit of our work. The 3M™ Molecular Detection System has proven to be a highly accurate and efficient tool for many food producers globally." - Polly Foss, 3M Food Safety global vice president.
USDA’s food safety tool for E. coli, salmonella, and listeria testing
The 3MTM Molecular Detection System uses isothermal DNA amplification and bioluminescence detection that gives fast and reliable results. The assays detect as low as 1 CFU of the target pathogen per sample and the ready-to-use reagents minimize the chances for error.
Simultaneously, it accommodates individual, pathogen-specific assays that enable meat, poultry, and other food and beverage categories to run up to 96 different tests concurrently for a range of organisms across various food and environmental samples.
